Here’s a story-type song captured through a Tascam Portastudio 242 MKIII I picked up from Austin in the middle of a rare snowstorm in central Texas.

This song’s got it all: Hapless lovers, the most lofi beat you’ve ever heard from an Electron Digitakt, an Arrested Development reference, and a bonus Sigur Ros song at the end.

This was the first product of a process of morning writing sessions I developed through 2022 and 2023. Sitting in my garage before my son woke, before the sun woke, I hammered out a few of these, mostly captured on my cell phone. On a rare night alone at home, I laid this one down on tape. The mysterious reverse song at the end is a product of my inexperience, as is some of the, dare I say, charm of this version of the song. If I ever record this one properly, I’ll probably still be partial to this version.

Like the hapless lovers in the tune, I’m left wondering whether we’ll ever know when it’s right. Maybe it’s right in front of us, or maybe we’re hiding from the ugly truth that’s right in front of us. Maybe it’ll happen. Maybe it won’t. Maeby tonight.
