This is a song about heartache and heartburn, about consolation and consequences. It’s a simple love song that ain’t so simple.
While already hunkering down amid the COVID lock downs, we found ourselves doubly hunkering as The Great Texas Freeze descended upon us. Millions lost power. Hundreds died. It was another twisted kind of isolation, with some cold and hungry while others made a game of it, lighting fires and making snowmen.
This is one of those I had to chip away at for quite some time. It’s practically a two chord song, which I was practically allergic to for several years when my songwriting was striving towards “sophistication” … whatever that means.
This song is a memory, as so many are, of a moment in time, of a period of my life, of the before times, when you could get a decent meal at Taco Cabana.
